How to schedule Threads posts, including reply chains

Threads rewards showing up often and joining conversations, which is exactly what is hard to do by hand every day. Scheduling lets you write a week of posts in one sitting and still appear in the feed every morning.

What Threads accepts

Through Publedia, a Threads post can be text, images, a carousel or a video.

A few things are worth knowing before you start:

• 500 characters is the ceiling for each post, not for the chain. When a thought needs more room, continue it as a reply chain instead of cutting it.
• Alt text is not sent to Threads through Publedia today. If an image carries important text, repeat it in the post.

Connect your Threads account

1. In Publedia, open Channels and select Connect channel.
2. Choose Threads. You sign in on Threads' own screen and approve access; Publedia never sees your password.
3. The account appears in your channel list with a Connected status.

Threads publishes through the same partner Publedia uses for Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, so the four connect the same way. If you manage several brands, put each brand's Threads profile in a channel group with its other accounts. See connecting your channels for every network.

Schedule a single post

1. Select Create post and choose your Threads channel. Add other channels too if the same idea is going elsewhere.
2. Write the post. If you picked several channels, select the channel's avatar and choose Write a version for this channel on Threads to give Threads its own text within its 500 characters.
3. Add images or a video if you want them. Up to 10 items become a carousel.
4. Check the preview, which shows how the post will look on Threads.
5. Select Pick a time, choose the day and time, and select Schedule. The picker names the time zone it schedules in.

The post appears on your calendar under Posts. Until it publishes you can open it, change it, or move it to another day.

Schedule a reply chain

A reply chain is a post followed by replies from you, published together. It is the Threads equivalent of a thread on X, and it is useful for a list, a story told in parts, or a longer argument.

1. In the Threads version of the post, select Add post below the first post to start the chain.
2. Write each part as its own post, each up to 500 characters. The first part is what people see in the feed, so make it work alone.
3. Schedule it as usual. The parts go out in order, as replies to the first.

A good reply chain has a first post that states the point, and parts that each add one thing. Numbering the parts ("1/5") is optional on Threads; many people leave it out and let the chain read as a conversation.

When to post on Threads

Buffer's 2026 analysis of more than 52 million posts, which includes Threads, found the strongest results on weekday mornings between 7 a.m. and noon, with Thursday at 9 a.m. the single best slot. Threads is conversational, so frequency matters more than on Instagram. One post a day is a sustainable start, and replying to comments on your own posts matters as much as posting.

Cross-posting from X, Instagram or Bluesky

Many people publish the same idea to Threads, X and Bluesky. It works if you adapt it:

• Length: Threads gives you 500 characters, X 280 and Bluesky 300. Write the Threads version first and cut it down, rather than padding an X post.
• Tone: Threads leans casual and less link-heavy than X. A question at the end invites replies.
• Media: a carousel of up to 10 works on Threads and Instagram; X stops at four images and Bluesky at four.

Reply to comments

Comments on your Threads posts arrive in Publedia's Inbox, which is in beta, next to comments from Facebook, Instagram and X, so you can answer them without switching apps.

Troubleshooting

• The channel shows "Needs reconnection". Open Channels and select Reconnect. Scheduled posts are kept while a channel is disconnected, so reconnect before their time comes.
• A post failed. Open it from Posts. The failed channel says why, and offers the fix: reconnect, edit the post, or retry. See fixing a failed post.
• The post is flagged as too long. Write a Threads version of its own; text written for LinkedIn will be too long.
