Publedia vs Buffer, compared honestly

Buffer is one of the best-known social media schedulers, and a common starting point for creators and small teams. Publedia is a newer publishing workspace for the same people. The choice usually comes down to four things: which networks they publish to, what they cost at your size, how teams work in them, and what each does that the other does not. Every detail about Buffer comes from Buffer's own pages, listed under Sources, as of September 2026. Prices and features change, so check them before you decide.

The short version

• Choose Buffer if you need Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Mastodon or Substack, if you want to post to LinkedIn company pages, or if you want unlimited scheduled posts on a small number of channels for a low per-channel price.
• Choose Publedia if you run many channels on one flat plan, want automation flows and repost lists built in, want to turn long videos into clips in the same tool, want YouTube videos as well as Shorts, or want an AI agent to work with your workspace through MCP with preset levels of access. Mind its monthly X allowance if X is your main network.

Networks

Buffer publishes to more networks. If one of the four Publedia does not support is important to you, that settles it. Publedia's limits per network (characters, media, video length) are listed on its supported platforms page.

Pricing

The two price in different ways. Buffer charges per channel; Publedia charges per plan, with a number of connected accounts included.

Buffer, from its pricing page as of September 2026:

• Free: up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel at any one time, 1 user.
• Essentials: $6 per channel per month billed monthly, or $5 billed yearly, for channels 1 to 10, with lower rates beyond that. Unlimited scheduled posts, 1 user.
• Team: $12 per channel per month billed monthly, or $10 billed yearly, for channels 1 to 10. Unlimited team members, access levels and approval workflows.

What that means at a few sizes

• 3 channels, one person: Buffer's Free plan covers it if 10 queued posts per channel is enough; Essentials is $18 a month. Publedia's free Basic plan covers 2 accounts, 10 scheduled posts a month and 5 posts to X a month, so a third account means Pro.
• 8 channels, one person: Buffer Essentials is $48 a month ($40 billed yearly) with unlimited scheduled posts. Publedia Pro is $21.99 a month ($16.99 billed yearly) with 8 accounts, 150 scheduled posts a month and 30 posts to X a month.
• 15 channels, three people: Buffer Team is 10 channels at $12 plus 5 at $4, or $140 a month billed monthly. Publedia Ultra is $39.99 a month ($29.99 billed yearly) for 15 accounts, 3 seats and 60 posts to X a month.

Three caveats keep this fair. Buffer's paid plans include unlimited scheduled posts, while each Publedia plan has a monthly allowance. Publedia also caps posts to X each month (5 on Basic, 30 on Pro, 60 on Ultra) unless the workspace connects its own X developer app, so someone who posts to X several times a day will reach that cap. And Publedia's paid plans are free during its current preview, which will not last; the figures above are its list prices.

Teams and approvals

Buffer puts team features on its Team plan: unlimited team members, access levels that control which channels each person can use, and content approval workflows.

AI and MCP

Both tools have an AI writing assistant, and both run an MCP server, so AI apps such as Claude Code or Cursor can work with your account.

• Buffer runs a remote MCP server at mcp.buffer.com, authenticated with an API key, which can read channels, queues and drafts, schedule and edit posts, capture ideas and pull post analytics, according to its developer documentation.
• Publedia runs an MCP server authenticated with workspace API keys in three presets: read only, drafts (a person schedules them), and full control. See connecting an AI app.

Features that differ

"Not listed on its pricing page" means exactly that: we found no such feature in Buffer's plan comparison, not that Buffer can never do something similar.

Where each one is stronger

Buffer is stronger on network coverage (12 networks, including Pinterest and Google Business Profile), LinkedIn company pages, analytics and reporting, unlimited scheduling with no X cap, integrations with Zapier, Make, n8n and IFTTT, a long track record, and a per-channel price that is very low for one or two channels.

Publedia is stronger on flat pricing for many accounts, built-in automation flows and repost lists, YouTube videos beyond Shorts, turning long videos into clips, workspaces that keep clients apart, and preset-based AI access over MCP.

Switching from Buffer

1. Create a Publedia workspace and connect the same accounts, from Channels.
2. Recreate your posting rhythm on the calendar. Evergreen posts that you requeue in Buffer can go into a repost list on the Ultra plan.
3. Move scheduled posts over a week at a time, and let the Buffer queue run out before you disconnect it, so nothing goes out twice.
