The main reason to look for a Typefully alternative is the networks. Typefully publishes text-first posts to X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon and Substack Notes, and its help center does not list Instagram, TikTok, YouTube or Facebook. If you also need those, Publedia and Buffer both cover them alongside X, LinkedIn, Threads and Bluesky. If you write mostly for X and LinkedIn, Typefully may still be the better tool, and this page says where. We make Publedia, so read its entry with that in mind. Every detail about Typefully and Buffer comes from their own pages, listed under Sources, as of October 2026.

Typefully, for reference

Typefully's help center, in an article dated August 11, 2026, lists what it publishes:

  • X: posts, threads and X Articles. Articles need an eligible X Premium subscription and go to X only.
  • LinkedIn: personal profiles and Pages.
  • Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon: posts.
  • Substack: Notes.

Its homepage now also names Instagram, while its scheduling page says Facebook, Instagram and TikTok are coming and its help center does not yet describe publishing to them. If Instagram is your reason to leave, check Typefully's current state first.

Typefully has a free plan; its help pages set lower upload sizes and AI usage on it, and inviting collaborators needs its Business plan. We could not read prices from Typefully's own pricing page, which loads them in the browser, so this page does not state them. Check them at typefully.com/pricing.

Where Typefully is stronger

  • The writing experience. Typefully is built around the draft, with a Writing Assistant that tightens drafts, suggests openings and adapts posts for other platforms (on every plan, with limited use on Free), and inline comments on shared drafts.
  • X depth. It schedules X Articles and has engagement tools for X: auto-retweets, auto-plugs (a follow-up once a post reaches a number of likes or reposts) and auto-DM campaigns.
  • Analytics for X. Impressions, engagement rate, profile conversion rate and follower count. Its analytics cover X accounts only for now, and LinkedIn is in development.
  • More text networks. LinkedIn Pages, Mastodon and Substack Notes, none of which Publedia supports.
  • Bluesky video. Its media formats page accepts video for Bluesky, up to 100 MB. Publedia does not publish video to Bluesky.
  • Scheduling for writers. A queue with Next slot and Best time, planned posts that wait until you confirm them, and Natural Posting Times, which shifts a post by up to four minutes.
  • No monthly X cap listed. Its X posting limits page sets thread and length limits only. Publedia caps posts to X each month unless you bring your own X app (see below).

It also runs an MCP server, signed in with OAuth, that can create, edit and schedule drafts.

Publedia

Publedia is a publishing workspace for creators, small businesses, in-house teams and small agencies. It publishes to eight networks: X, YouTube, Bluesky, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Threads.

What it adds for someone coming from Typefully:

  • Video networks. Instagram posts, carousels and reels, TikTok videos, Facebook Page posts and reels, and YouTube videos as well as Shorts, from the same composer as your X and LinkedIn posts.
  • A version per network, checked before you schedule. Each channel can have its own text, and the composer counts each version the way its network does, so an X version is weighted the way X counts it and a Bluesky version is counted in graphemes. Cross-posting to X, Threads and Bluesky walks through it.
  • Failures reported per channel. If one channel refuses a post, its row says why and offers one next step, such as Reconnect channel, Edit post or Retry, and the other channels keep their result. See fixing a failed post.
  • Automations (beta). Flows that publish from a folder or an RSS feed, draft posts with AI on a schedule or answer comments, with approval steps where you want them. Repost lists (beta) and long-video repurposing come with the Ultra plan and up.
  • AI apps over MCP, with workspace keys in three presets: read only, drafts (a person schedules them) and full control. See connecting an AI app.
  • A workspace per client or brand, each with its own channels, files and members.

What to know if X is your main network:

  • Posts to X count against a monthly allowance: 5 on Basic, 15 on Pro and 60 on Ultra. Every post in a thread counts. A workspace that connects its own X developer app is not capped, and X bills those posts to your developer account.
  • There are no X Articles, auto-plugs or auto-DMs.
  • LinkedIn is personal profiles only, with no metrics. There is no Mastodon or Substack.
  • Analytics and the inbox are in beta.

Buffer

Buffer charges per channel and covers the widest set of networks of the three: X, Bluesky, Threads, LinkedIn profiles and pages, Mastodon, Substack Notes, Instagram, Facebook Pages, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Pinterest and Google Business Profile.

As of October 2026, its Free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time. Essentials is $6 per channel per month billed monthly ($5 billed yearly), and Team is $12 ($10 billed yearly) with unlimited team members and approval workflows. Paid plans have unlimited scheduled posts, within a fair use cap of 5,000 per channel.

  • Consider it if you want to keep Mastodon, Substack Notes or LinkedIn Pages and add Instagram or TikTok.
  • Think twice if you post long YouTube videos: Buffer publishes Shorts only. Publedia vs Buffer has the full comparison.

Who should stay with Typefully

  • You write mostly for X and LinkedIn, and the editor, X Articles and X analytics are why you use it.
  • You publish to Mastodon or Substack Notes, or to a LinkedIn Page.
  • You post to X many times a day and do not want to set up your own X developer app.
  • You do not publish video to Instagram, TikTok or YouTube.

If any of those is true, a second tool for video networks may suit you better than switching.

Moving from Typefully to Publedia

  1. Create a workspace and connect your accounts from Channels, including the video networks Typefully does not cover.
  2. If you post to X often, decide on the X allowance first: pick a plan that covers your monthly X posts, or connect your own X app.
  3. Recreate scheduled posts in Create post a week at a time, and let Typefully's queue run out before you disconnect accounts there, so nothing goes out twice.
