How to schedule X posts, threads and polls

To schedule a post on X, connect your account, write the post or thread, pick a time and select Schedule. The steps are below, along with the X rules that trip scheduled posts: weighted character counting, links that count as 23, thread and poll limits, and the monthly X allowance that applies to posts sent through Publedia's own X app.

What X accepts through Publedia

An X post can be text, text with images, text with one video, a thread or a poll.

A few rules sit behind that table. A video or a GIF has to be the only attachment on its post; only images combine. A poll can't carry an image or a video. The 2 minutes 20 seconds ceiling is Publedia's current limit for video on X, so trim longer clips before you upload them.

Connect your X account

1. Open Channels and select Connect channel.
2. Choose X. The tile reads "Account": you connect your own account, with nothing to set up on X first.
3. Sign in on X's screen and approve access. Publedia never sees your password.

The account appears in your channel list as Connected, and it counts as one connected account on your plan.

Schedule a single post

1. Select Create post, select Choose channels, and pick your X channel. Add Threads, Bluesky or LinkedIn as well if the same idea is going there.
2. Write the post. If you picked several channels, select the X avatar and choose Write a version for this channel, so X gets its own shorter text while the others keep theirs.
3. Add up to 4 images or one video, and give each image alt text.
4. Check the X preview.
5. Select Pick a time, choose the day and time, and select Schedule. The picker names the time zone it schedules in.

The post goes on your calendar under Posts. Until it publishes, you can open it, edit it or drag it to another day.

Schedule a thread

Threads and polls belong to the X version of a post, so open that version first: select the X avatar and choose Write a version for this channel. You need this step even when X is the only channel on the post.

1. In the X version, select Continue as thread. The text you have written becomes Post 1.
2. Select Add post for each further part. Every post in the thread has its own 280, counted separately.
3. To add images or a video, select Media on the post they belong to. Post 1 of a thread is text only, so put visuals from Post 2 onward.
4. Schedule it as usual. The posts go out in order, each one a reply to the post before it.

Discard thread turns it back into a single post.

Every post in a thread counts toward the X allowance, so a six-post thread uses six. The composer shows this beside the X version ("This thread uses 6 of them") along with how many are left this month, so you find out before you write part nine.

Post 1 is what people meet first, so write it to stand on its own: the claim, the number or the question, not "A thread on what I learned". Numbering the parts is optional. The later posts should each add one thing.

Add a poll

1. In the X version, write the question as the post text.
2. Select Add a poll. The poll choices take the place of the text box, which is why the question comes first.
3. Fill in the choices. You start with two; Add choice adds more, up to four, each up to 25 characters.
4. Pick a Duration: 1 hour, 6 hours, 1 day, 3 days or 7 days. It starts at 1 day.
5. Schedule it as usual.

Remove poll takes the poll off and brings the text box back.

How X counts characters

X's 280 is a weighted count, not a plain character count. Latin letters, Cyrillic, digits and common punctuation count as one each. Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters count as two, and so does every emoji, however it is built. Every link counts as 23, however long or short it is, because X wraps it in its own short link.

That is why a text editor and X can disagree. A post of long links looks too long in a plain counter and fits on X; a post in Japanese looks short and gets refused. Publedia's composer counts the X version the way X does, and the free character counter uses the same rule, so you can check a draft before you open the composer. The monthly X allowance

X bills API use per request, including every post created. On Publedia's own X app, your posts to X count against a monthly allowance: 5 on Basic, 30 on Pro and 60 on Ultra. The allowance covers X only. Posts to other networks never use it.

It resets on the first day of each calendar month, in UTC, and a post counts in the month it publishes, not the month you scheduled it. The allowance is also checked again when a post is sent. A post you scheduled with room to spare can still fail with Plan limit reached if the month's allowance ran out before its time came. When that happens, only the X channel fails; the other channels on the post still publish.

You can avoid the allowance altogether. An admin can register the workspace's own X app under Settings, Developers, and posts to X then publish without the allowance, billed by X to that app. The steps are in use your own X app, and the pricing page lists each plan's allowance.

When to post on X

The two large 2026 studies disagree on X. Sprout Social found the strongest window from Tuesday to Thursday, 12 to 6 p.m. Buffer found weekday mornings from 8 to 11 a.m. did best, with Tuesday at 9 a.m. the top slot. Both agree that X is a weekday network, and both use the audience's local time.

Test both. Schedule half your posts in a morning slot and half in an afternoon slot for four weeks, then keep whichever wins. The best time to post guide has both studies side by side and the full testing method.

Replies

Comments on your X posts arrive in Publedia's Inbox (beta), alongside comments from Facebook, Instagram and Threads. You can Reply from there or Hide a comment, without opening X.

Troubleshooting

• The post is flagged as too long. X counts weighted characters, so emoji, CJK characters and links cost more than they look. Shorten the X version, or split it with Continue as thread.
• The video is refused. Video on X is limited to 2 minutes 20 seconds through Publedia. Trim it and upload it again.
• The post failed with Plan limit reached. The month's X allowance ran out. Wait for the reset on the first of the month and retry, change plan, or use your own X app.
• The channel shows Needs reconnection. Open Channels and select Reconnect. Scheduled posts are kept while you do it.
• A send timed out. If Publedia can't confirm whether a post reached X, it does not send it again on its own. Check your X profile before you select Retry, or you may post it twice.
