What the Analytics page shows, what engagement and rate mean, which numbers each network reports, and how to use top posts to decide what to post next.

Analytics shows how your published posts are doing, for the channels in the current workspace. It is in beta: the numbers come from each network, and not every network reports every number.

What is on the page

  • The period and channels: choose a date range (such as the last 30 days) and all channels or one channel at the top.
  • Headline figures: engagement, and the other metrics your channels report for the period, such as impressions, likes and comments. Each shows its change against the previous period of the same length. Select one to chart it.
  • The trend chart: the chosen figure over the period, day by day, or week by week for the 90-day range.
  • Top posts: your posts in the period, with their channel, impressions, engagement and rate. Sort by any column, choose which columns to show, and page through the list.

Open any post to see its own numbers on its detail page.

What the numbers mean

  • Engagement is the sum of the interactions a network reports for a post: likes, comments, shares and saves, as far as that network reports them. It is the one figure every network that reports metrics can fill, which is why it leads. LinkedIn reports no metrics to Publedia yet, so LinkedIn posts have no figures here.
  • Impressions are how many times a post was shown, where the network reports it. Views are video plays, where the network reports those instead.
  • Rate is a post's engagement divided by its impressions, shown for posts whose network reports impressions.

There is no workspace-wide engagement rate on purpose. Once several networks are in view, engagement and impressions come from different sets of posts, so dividing one total by the other would give a number that describes none of them.

What each network reports

Metrics each network reports to Publedia
NetworkMetrics
XImpressions, likes, comments, shares, saves
FacebookImpressions, likes, comments, shares, clicks
InstagramImpressions, likes, comments, saves
TikTokImpressions, views, likes, comments, shares
YouTubeViews, likes, comments
ThreadsViews, likes, comments, shares

LinkedInNone yet

A dash in a column means the network did not report that number for that post; it is never shown as a zero.

What depends on your plan

The table, sorting, date ranges and channel filter are on every plan. Totals, the comparison between channels, CSV export and the last 90 days are included from the Pro plan. The page names what your plan does not include, where those numbers would appear.

Use it to decide what to post next

Once a month:

  1. Set the range to the last 30 days and sort Top posts by engagement.
  2. Look at the top five. What do they share: a topic, a format, a network, a time of day?
  3. Sort by rate as well. A post with a high rate on few impressions is worth posting again at a better time or on another network.
  4. Choose one thing to do more of next month, and one to stop.

To test posting times, see the best time to post, which explains how to compare two time slots fairly.

Why the numbers can differ from the network's app

  • Timing: Publedia collects numbers from each network periodically, so the most recent interactions can take a while to appear.
  • Definitions: networks define impressions and views differently, and sometimes change their definitions.
  • Scope: Publedia counts posts published through it for the channels in this workspace.
