Channels

Group channels by brand, client or region

Create channel groups so you can pick every account for one brand in a single click when you create a post, and keep a busy channel list easy to read.

A channel group is a named set of connected accounts, such as "Main brand", "Outlet store" or "Spain". Groups make two things faster: choosing where a post goes, and reading a long channel list.

When to use groups, and when to use workspaces

  • Groups organise accounts inside one workspace: several brands of one business, or regions of one brand. Everyone in the workspace sees every group.
  • Workspaces keep things apart: a separate workspace per client means their channels, posts, files and members never appear next to another client's. See workspaces and team roles.

Agencies usually use both: one workspace per client, and groups inside a client's workspace when that client has several brands.

Create a group

There are two ways to start a group:

  • From the grouped view: on Channels, switch the view to By group and select New group.
  • From a channel: open the menu beside a channel. With no groups yet it offers Add to a new group; once groups exist, choose Add to group (or Move to group), then New group.

Either way, the Create channel group dialog opens:

  1. Name the group, choose a colour if you like, and add a short description of what it is for.
  2. Tick the channels that belong in it.
  3. Select Create group.

Once groups exist, you can also select several channels with the checkboxes and choose Move to group in the bar that appears.

The group's name and colour then show beside each of its channels in the list.

A channel can be in one group at a time. Moving a channel into a new group takes it out of its old one.

Use a group when you create a post

  1. Select Create post, then Choose channels.
  2. Groups are listed first, with how many channels each has. Select the + beside a group to add all of its channels to the post.
  3. Remove any single channel you do not want this time, then write the post as usual.

Each channel in the group still shows as its own avatar in the composer, so you can write a version of the text for any one of them.

Change or remove a group

  • Rename it or change its members: in the By group view, open the menu beside the group and choose Edit group. Channels you untick leave the group when you save.
  • Take one channel out: open the menu beside the channel, choose Move to group, then Remove from group.
  • Delete the group: choose Edit group, then Delete group. The channels stay connected and their scheduled posts are unchanged; only the grouping goes.

Tips

  • Name groups after what you pick them for, such as a brand or a campaign audience, not after networks. The composer already shows each channel's network.
  • Keep groups small and stable. A group you rebuild every week is doing the job of a single post's channel choice.
  • Use tags for campaigns. Tags on posts are the better tool for grouping posts, as opposed to accounts, and the calendar and posts list can filter by them.
